Vagt Lake Quick Escape Guided Hike

A perfect 2.5-hour adventure for travelers on the go! This scenic, guide-led hike follows a stretch of the historic Iditarod Trail to the shores of Vagt Lake. Enjoy breathtaking views, rich storytelling, and a chance to spot Alaskan wildlife—all in a quick but memorable escape into the wild.

Path of the Glaciers: Hike Carter & Crescent Lake Trail

Most frequent questions and answers

We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy hiking shoes, a full water bottle, and a small daypack. Don’t forget sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray. We provide trail snacks on both tours!

Both hikes begin with check-in at our Moose Pass Adventures base. From there, guests will follow their guide in their own vehicle to the nearby trailhead. Free parking is available.

No, guests will need to drive themselves to the trailhead after meeting in Moose Pass. The trailheads are close (within 5–10 minutes), and this setup allows you to continue your day right from the trailhead without needing to return to town.

  • Vagt Lake Quick Escape is beginner-friendly and suitable for most fitness levels, with a mild 3.2-mile round-trip trail and gentle elevation.

  • Path of the Glaciers is a moderate hike best for active guests comfortable with a 6.6-mile round-trip and about 1,200 feet of elevation gain—most of it in the first mile.

  • Vagt Lake: Ages 5 and up

  • Path of the Glaciers: Ages 10 and up

Possibly! Both trails offer chances to spot moose, eagles, bears, and more. While we can’t guarantee sightings, our guides will keep a lookout and help you understand the local wildlife and ecosystems along the way.

Sure! On warm days, some guests take a refreshing dip at Vagt or Crescent Lake. Just be prepared—these waters are glacier-fed and brisk, even in summer!

There are no restrooms on the trails, but facilities are available at our base before departure. We’ll cover backcountry bathroom etiquette during your trip orientation.
