Grant Lake Yurts: Community Access
Summer at "The Nellie"

Self-Supported Backcountry Stay

This is a self-supported, unguided backcountry experience. Your group should be comfortable with remote travel, kayaking in cold water, and camping in bear country in Alaska.

“The Nellie” is part of our Grant Lake Yurts: Community Access program, privately managed and made available on a limited basis to guests who value time outside and take responsibility for the places they visit.

About the Nellie

This cozy hideaway is named after Alaska Nellie, a legendary pioneer who once called this rugged wilderness home. Nellie was known for her hospitality in a remote and demanding landscape, and we hope you feel a similar sense of welcome, and a bit of inspiration, during your stay.

The yurt sleeps up to 5 guests and includes one double bunk and three twin bunks.

Why This Exists

Grant Lake Yurts are part of a broader effort to create meaningful access to the outdoors while maintaining a strong sense of care for the land.

This is not a typical rental. It’s an opportunity to spend time in a place that’s been thoughtfully developed and is actively maintained. We share it with the expectation that guests will treat it with respect, follow established practices, and leave it ready for whoever comes next.

Our hope is simple: that your time here deepens your connection to this place, and that you help preserve that experience for others.
