Secluded Alaska Winter escape
Whether you are well seasoned in the outdoors or never snowshoed or stayed in a yurt before, this tour offers a cozy winter nights getaway that you’ve always dreamed of.
This overnight yurt adventure begins with a snowshoe across frozen Trail Lake in Historic Moose Pass. Our guides bring this small Alaskan town’s history to life. The stories of locals like Alaska Nellie, the ghost of gold miner Al and the famed Iditarod Trail provide plenty to ponder as you walk along the shores of Trail Lake. After a short hike south, we’ll head into a beautiful spruce forest for a walk along a section of the National Historic Iditarod Trail toward remote Grant Lake. While our hike is moderately rated in regard to the terrain, we’ll take our time to soak in the quiet, winter wonderland surrounding us. We’ll soon arrive at your accommodation for the night, an Alaskan handmade yurt, on the banks of vast, Grant Lake. The feelings while staring out across Grant Lake are hard to describe and the stunning winter views are breathtaking.
While you’re getting cozy and settling into your surroundings for the night, we’ll prepare a frontier style BBQ dinner before turning in for the night, to drift off to dream. While we can’t predict if we’ll see the northern lights in this part of Alaska, it’s certainly worth setting a late night alarm to peep up out of the top of skylight in the yurt to have a look. If you’re lucky, the Aurora Borealis will put on a dance like you’ve never seen before!
In the morning, after a nice little sleep in, or maybe a stroll in the brisk winter wonderland, we’ll have a warm breakfast and hot coffee or tea before packing up for our journey back to Moose Pass.
