Hike in, Packraft Out
True Alaskan Style Kayak Adventure
Whether this is the first time you’ve heard the word ‘Packraft’ or it’s something you’ve wanted to do for a while, if you love to get out into the wilderness & have an adventurous streak, this trip is a must do!
We’ll start with a solid orientation of our route & gear, then begin the day’s outing; a combination hike & kayak loop in Alaska’s rugged Chugach Mountains!
With our first paddle across Trail Lake, the stories of Historic Moose Pass begin to unfold. We’ll cross under the famed Alaska Railroad & soon come to our first hike.
We’ll secure our Alpacka Packrafts & the rest of our gear into our packs then begin a hike along a portion of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, eventually winding our way up to stunning Grant Lake.
The first glimpse of, sometimes turquoise, other times emerald, Grant Lake is awesome. As we head down to the lakeshore we’ll lay out our gear, inflate our Packrafts & explore this remote glacial lake.
Our paddling will bring us to a far shore of the lake and to areas not accessible by trail. After a filling lunch & a bit more experience working with & learning more about our Alpacka Packrafts, we’ll head back to hit the trail once more, and head back toward Trail Lake, to paddle back to our destination.
You’ll gain a whole new insight in ways to travel in the backcountry & a better understanding of the rich history of this region of Alaska.
