An Immersive 3-Day Wilderness Escape
From the first time we welcomed guests to stay overnight in our yurts, The Nellie and The Ed, on Grant Lake, we realized we had to get people out here for longer stays.
There’s something pretty special about hiking into a wilderness location, then realizing this is your basecamp, your own little piece of Alaska paradise for the next two nights.
Day 1: Paddle, Hike, and Arrive at Grant Lake
Like all of our adventures at Grant Lake, we begin with a paddle across Trail Lake in historic Moose Pass. Our guides bring this small Alaskan town’s history to life as you travel along the shoreline.
After a mile-long paddle south, we’ll glide to a stop and stash our kayaks for the hike ahead. From there we follow a section of the Iditarod National Historic trail, hiking just over a mile the stunning blue waters of remote Grant Lake.
Settle into camp while we prepare a frontier-style dinner, then drift off for the night in the land of the Midnight Sun.
Day 2: A Full Day to Explore Grant Lake
Day two is where the adventure really opens up. Wake to the smell of coffee and the peaceful sounds of the Alaska wilderness, then enjoy a cooked breakfast as we ease into the day.
With no need to pack up and head out right away, you’ll have the chance to truly settle into life at Grant Lake. A guided kayak exploration is usually the highlight of the day, giving us time to venture farther across the lake, seek out hidden waterfalls, take in dramatic scenery, and watch for wildlife along the shoreline. We’ll pack along lunch and snacks so we can make the most of our time out on the water.
This extra day is what makes this trip so special. Instead of simply arriving and departing, you get time to experience Grant Lake more fully. You get to paddle more, linger longer, and enjoy the quiet rhythm of this spectacular backcountry setting.
Day 3: A Scenic Return to Moose Pass
On your final morning, often to the iconic sound of the varied thrush or other migratory birds, we’ll enjoy breakfast with hot coffee or tea before packing up for the journey back to Moose Pass.
Your Backcountry Yurt Stay
Our cozy yurts keep you warm and dry, while thick expedition-style camp mattresses and warm sleeping bags create a comfortable place to rest after a full day of kayaking and hiking.
Life at camp is simple, peaceful, and off grid. It is a chance to unplug from normal routines and ease into the rhythm of the wilderness for a few days. There is no shower at camp, but if you are feeling brave, Grant Lake offers the unforgettable opportunity for a refreshing dip in a glacier-fed lake. And when nature calls, even the outhouse comes with a bonus: beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness.
It’s the best of both worlds: an adventure in the wild and a comfortable retreat at the end of the day.
