Most frequent questions and answers
Guided Tours – Not at all! Our guided kayak tours are beginner-friendly and include full instruction. If you’ve never paddled before, we’ll make sure you feel confident before getting on the water.
Rentals are self-guided, kayaking or other water sport experience is preferred. You should feel confident around water. Please note: swimming ability is required for rentals.
Dress in layers and come prepared for changing weather. We recommend:
Waterproof jacket and rain pants
Quick-dry or synthetic layers (avoid cotton)
Waterproof shoes or boots
Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
We provide life jackets (PFDs) and all kayaking gear.
Guided Tours include a trained guide, full safety briefing, local storytelling, and help getting in and out of the kayak.
Rentals are self-guided — perfect if you want to paddle at your own pace. You will be responsible for getting in and out of the kayak on your own.
Please note: swimming ability is required for rentals.

Trail Lake Guided Kayak Tour: Ages 5+. One adult must accompany each child participating.
Kayak Rentals: All participants must be 18+ to paddle a solo kayak; minors (ages 5+) must be in tandem kayak accompanied by an adult.Â
Most tours launch from our base on Trail Lake in Moose Pass, Alaska. You’ll receive a confirmation email with exact directions and meeting time.
Yes. The max capacity for our tandem kayaks is a combined weight of guests and gear of 400 pounds or less. If you have specific concerns, please contact us before booking so we can ensure a comfortable experience.
