Whether you are well seasoned in the outdoors or have never kayaked or stayed in a yurt before, this tour is one of the best ways to feel truly immersed in what Alaska has to offer.

Paddle Through the Story of Moose Pass

This overnight yurt adventure begins with a paddle accross Trail Lake in historic Moose Pass. Our guides bring this small Alaskan town’s history to life. The stories of locals like Alaska Nellie, the ghost of gold miner Al, and the famed Iditarod Trail provide plenty to ponder as you paddle along the shores of Trail Lake.

Hike to Remote Grant Lake

After a short paddle south, we’ll glide to a stop and hop out of our kayaks for a hike along a section of the Iditarod National Historic Trail as we head up and over the ridge to the stunning blue waters of remote Grant Lake. While our hike is moderately rated in regard to the terrain, there’s no denying we’re in wild Alaska along this route due to the rapid growth in vegetation in the spring and summer along the trail.

A Night in a Backcountry Yurt

After hiking just over 2 miles, we’ll arrive at your accommodation, an Alaskan handmade, Mongolian-style yurt, situated just a short walk from the banks of gorgeous, glacially carved Grant Lake. The feeling of staring out across Grant Lake is hard to describe, and the views are breathtaking.

If you’re up for more paddling, you’ll have time to explore this stunning lake by kayak. Afterward, while you’re getting cozy and settling into your surroundings, we’ll prepare a frontier-style dinner before turning in for the night to drift off and dream in the land of the Midnight Sun.

Wake Up to the Sounds of the Wild

In the morning, often to the iconic sound of the varied thrush or other migratory birds of the area, we’ll have a warm breakfast and hot coffee or tea before packing up for our journey back to Moose Pass.

We launch kayaks just behind Trail Lake Lodge at 33654 Depot Rd.

How Much

We start this tour at $625 per person, with a 2 person minimum, 8 people maximum.

Private groups up to 13 may be accommodated.

Age Requirements: While our minimum age is 7+ on this tour, guests should understand this is an active, group tour consisting of physical activity into a wilderness setting.
